Peter is addressing the Jewish believers who were forced to flee Jerusalem, when a great persecution began on the day that Stephen was stoned to death. After stating the wonderful things that the believer has been given in Christ, we now see that these things are the foundation for our rejoicing in the Lord always, even when we are experiencing the various trials of living as believers in a hostile world. God's word speaks of the glories to follow, and here we look at how an understanding of living in the time of the glories to follow is to shape our lives for the rest of our days here on earth. As members of the family of God, we are to be obedient to the holy standards of our new family. In the Old Testament the holy of holies was off limits, except on the day of atonement, when only the high priest entered, bringing blood, first for his own sin, and then a second time bringing blood for the sins of the people. Now as a result of the finished work of Christ, believers are told to come boldly into the holy place where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father, as our great high priest!
