When Christ reigns as King in your heart, you lack nothing necessary to live as light in a world darkened by the ignorance of, and rejection of, God. God makes this clear in the very names of the Child born, the Son given to us. "His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) Jesus is the embodiment of all divine wisdom. In fact, His counsel to His own is so wonderful that it can only be explained by His deity. No one ever instructed the LORD or gave Him counsel… He is all wisdom personified. Our plans need not lack His wonderful counsel, nor will His counsel ever lack power to be fulfilled. Jesus is our Mighty God! God's people in ancient Judah desperately needed counsel but sought wisdom outside of God. And they looked to human strength rather than divine rescue. Can you imagine such a thing? Where do you turn in order to make sense of your life? Whose power do you typically rely upon? This Sunday, we'll return to Isaiah's prophecy of Christ's advent as we consider, "Unto Us a Child is Born: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God."
