Who was it that said honor your father and your mother? God did. To honor your father and mother, we must live in such a way that brings them honor. No one has the authority to require what God forbids or to forbid what God commands. Jesus shows us what He would have us to do. Mary did not always know what Jesus was up to. In Luke 2:41-50 Mary and Joseph did not understand that Jesus had to be in His Father’s house. Jesus is always doing the will of His Father. People need to know the real Jesus, not a watered-down version of the gospel. We must believe that Jesus is the one Mediator between God and man. Mary, like all people, needs a Savior. Mary should be honored but not put on a level with her Son Jesus. We must not allow anything or anyone to stop us from doing the will of our heavenly Father. We need to honor our father and mother the way Jesus did.
