Unlike many Christians today, when our predecessors prayed "Thy kingdom come ON EARTH as it is in heaven," they actually meant it.
Most Christians do not believe that the nations and the majority of the world will come to Christ before the last day. They have been taught by pastors and authors and songwriters and filmmakers that the world is destined to get worse and worse, that Christ will have fewer and fewer followers, and that these are all signs that the end is near. (Isn't it interesting that they hotly preach free will and deny the sovereignty of God and foreordination, yet firmly believe in the foreordination of Satan's victory on earth?)
They say to believe otherwise is wishful thinking. Shouldn't it be every Christian's wish that all people would come to Christ? That all the nations would acknowledge and obey Him in their law-making? That peace would reign on the earth?
This is more than wishful thinking. It is Biblical thinking.
The pessimillenialism that engulfs the church today causes Christians to retreat from the world, in blatant disobedience to the Lord's command to exercise dominion. This retreat from engaging the world has created a culture vacuum that has been quickly filled by Christ's enemies: secular humanism, apostate churches, cults and New Age paganism.
