BACKSLIDING AND REFORMATION 1. Temple and Ministers, v. 1-14 2. Sabbath, v. 15-22 3. Marriage, v. 23-29 4. Summary, v. 30-31
Dr. Douglas F. Kelly, one of the leaders in the Christian Reconstruction movement in the 1980's and a good friend of Rushdoony, commented that it was rare to hear the term backsliding or backslidden Christian. He attributed this to the relativism that affects even conservative churches. Rather than speak of people in rebellion we sometimes prefer to say that we all are progressing differently in our sanctification. The book of Nehemiah ends with a record of backsliding and rebellion. Much like the churches in Revelation, there was a turning away and backsliding of God's people during the time of Nehemiah's absence. Thankfully, however, the book doesn't simply end with a story of compromise and backsliding, but rather it ends in hard fought victory and reformation.
