The church is not a social club, but a body. The members of a church are joined together in love into one body, which is the body of Christ. These are the same words that the Bible uses to describe a marriage between a man and a woman. Two become one, therefore, what God hath joined together let not man put asunder. The same things that destroy a marriage are the things that destroy a church. Love grown cold, outside interests, an independent spirit, neglect of duties and responsibilities, which is unfaithfulness. A fire goes out if we do not tend it and keep it going. If we get busy and forget it and neglect to put wood on it until it is almost out it is takes a lot more time and effort to get it going again. God does not like a lukewarm church.
