At times of God's visitation, there are songs recorded in Scripture. The times when God comes are times when saints lift up their voice in praise to God. Such a song is recorded for us here in Luke in the praise of Zacharias. This is a priase born out of sound, biblical doctrine. In this message, we look at the song of Zacharias and what it reveals about him
1. his theology "blessed be God" (1:68) His theology exalts God. True praise exalts God and not self. Theology should not be a dry, academic study like biology or physics. Theology should give birth to praise and echo what we believe about God. Shallow doctrine leads to shallow praise. Zecharius' theology beats with a heart of praise.
2. his Christology We see his doctrine of Christ. Old Testament saints prior to Pentecost knew that Messiah was coming as a king. They knew God would visit His people and send a king to rule over them. Monarchy is God's government. God's kingdom is not a democracy. The knowledge that Zecharias has about Christ is based on the Word of God where the coming Messiah is seen as a king (Jeremiah 23:5-6). Christ coming into this world is a reminder that we live in a world where righteousness is repressed. God will's is that we serve him in righteousness. Christ's coming is a reminder that he will come again to establish a new heaven and earth wherein righteousness dwells.
3. his Soteriology 3a. motivation God's salvation is motivated through His tender mercy (1:78). Come to him and he will recieve you 3b, manifestation God manifests light to those in darkness and reveals peace through the cross (1:79). 3c. manner he wanted people to know forgiveness (1:77)
