Peter clearly designates Lot as a righteous person. God graciously blessed Lot with great opportunities to come along with God's plan to make a great people of God from the descendants of Abraham. Lot was blessed with many material possessions. However, when the crisis opportunity came, Lot chose self-interests and self-advancement over God and His will. This is a sad reality with many Christians today. Instead of leaving all to follow Christ, many prefer to look on the well-watered plain of the Jordan and turn their eyes toward Sodom. Lot lost everything in the judgment of God and, thus, stands in biblical history as a fool.
