Remember, "The language of the Old Covenant is being used to express the reality of the New (Isa. 66:23)…" It cannot be a literal fulfillment NOT because the events are too incredible and impossible to fulfill (not at all) but because of God's revealed redemptive history. God's purpose culminates in Christ's coming and then adding Jews and Gentiles as His people. The Text Much of what is said in this chapter develops some of the themes already developed in chs. 12-13. Verses 1-2, God's People will Suffer Much. Verses 3-5, Our God will Fight for Us. Verses 6-9, Our Lord's Coming will be Glorious. Verses 10-11, God's people will be exalted and will be secure forever. Verses 12-15, God will judge His enemies! Verses 16-19, The Gentiles will also Worship God! Verses 20-21, In the New Age, Everything will be Holy. judgment. It is not because of anything we have done. We will dwell with our Lord. "They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are my people'; and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'" (13:9)
