We have in David a representation of the will and rule of God and in Absalom a representation of wicked rebellion against that rule. This is a miniature picture of a much larger reality. Jesus Christ is king by the will and rule of God, and just as Absalom came to a tragic end for rebelling against David, so will all who rebel against God's greater king, Jesus. This chapter enables us to draw several conclusions about the death of Absalom, each of which has pointed relevance for those who reject Christ. 1-It was irreversibly determined by God. 2-It was exceedingly shameful and humiliating. 3-It was unnecessary.
