A believer is free in Christ today-- free from the penalty, power, and soon to be presence of sin. The Apostle commands the believer to stand fast in Christian liberty and he sends out a strong warning against those who try to distort the gospel (Galatians 5:1, 12). The Galatian heresy involved legalism- the attempt to be justified by works. This is impossible. Jesus Christ makes salvation possible. A believer must not get entangled in a yoke of bondage (legalism- pride) or abuse the grace of God through self-indulgence (license-pride). Perhaps, the agitators were saying Paul’s gospel led to lawlessness. This is not true. One is not justified by the works of the law, but the law has a purpose. It is an expression of God’s love. In revealing God’s love, it reveals our sinfulness. We need God’s power to change our lives and empower us to love what God loves and hate what God hates. The work of the Holy Spirit leads us into freedom which is the law of love. Today, we will be looking at The Law of Love and discussing 1)Love is freeing and serving 2) Love fulfills the law 3) Love Fellowships and Fights for the Glory of God.
