O that God would turn on the eyes of my heart so I can grasp something of what He has called me to!
Some people are really excited by the prospect of a miracle. Some are impressed by lofty intellectual oratory. But I delight more in the staggering effects of the pure, simple gospel preached, and the work God does through this means.

If you were on death row and all appeals had been turned down, and eventually, the day before your execution the president stays your sentence in order to free you, surely that would be good news! Yet this news of the gospel is far greater. It involves eternal release from and inestimable penalty. Moreover, not only has He called His people to this freedom from punishment, but to overwhelming positive gifts, riches and honour!
This is something worth celebrating. This is hope, true biblical hope. This is unassailable motivation for the long haul.
