Sanctification is threefold in nature. There is definitive sanctification which occurs at regeneration and conversion. This involved a decided, determinate break with sin, self, and the world and a fundamental change of the governing disposition of the soul. Unfolding from this is progressive sanctification, that is, the ongoing transformation of the believer more and more into the moral image of Christ. This involves time and effort. Progressive sanctification terminates with perfected sanctification. The Captain of Salvation shall occupy every square inch of the territory of our souls and bodies. He shall sweep the field of the enemy and possess it all. We shall be holy and blameless before Him.
