The commands and promises given to Abraham can confuse us if we're not careful. On the one hand, Hebrews 11 encourages us to imitate such giants of the faith as Abraham, but the question is, how do we do that rightly?
Are we called to pick up and leave our country and go travel the world until God tells us where and when to stop? If not, what are we called to do?
First, we have to do the theological work of seeing Abraham for who he uniquely was in the great story of redemption, then we have to place ourselves in the right spot in that story. Only then can we know how we are to be like Abraham, and how we are not to be like Abraham.
