Luke 22:45-62 – Armed for the Battle (2) – Sermon Outline
Intro: Christ is about to be betrayed, and He tells His disciples to arm themselves for the betrayal and battles ahead. The key armor, however, is not physical, but spiritual, watchfulness in prayer, not swords.
Need: Christ must lay down His life to pay for sin, and calls His disciples to prepare for the battle against evil by arming themselves in prayers to strengthen their faith to overcome temptation and trust in Him.
Theme: God's People and Kingdom grow by relying upon His strength to overcome evil.
1. The disciples lacked prayer so they lacked strength to stand with Christ in this darkest hour. 2. Peter, unarmed against the power of darkness, has his darkest hour in denying Christ three times. 3. Examples from Protestant Reformation Leaders of their victories, difficulties, and divisions in striving to stand in faithfulness by God's strength for His Church & kingdom. |
