If you were to tell me a year ago there are some professing Christians who believe that they must circumcise their sons to be obedient Christians, I would have not believed you. But apparently there are some (a very small group of people) who entertain such nonsense. But for the most part, we will rarely face the very specific issue addressed in this passage, namely, you must be circumcised in order to be truly justified. Yet, different ways of perverting the gospel has not ceased. It might not be in this form found in Galatia but there are other false teachers and false teachings plaguing the church. Some Presbyterians are either explicitly or implicitly teaching that baptism saves. Some people teach that God changes, others teach that all will be saved (more and more writings advance Universalism), and still some are teaching that one can be a practicing homosexual and still be saved. But the most common error is that one can believe in Jesus and still remain unchanged in their lives, the old Jesus as Savior but not as Lord, as long as they believe it doesn't matter what happens in their lives.
I. False teaching will either enslave or destroy our souls (v. 4). II. Our stand for the true gospel always helps other people (v. 5). III. No one is immune from being confronted if he or she teach or live contrary to the gospel (v. 14).
