Often we allow our view of our relationship with God be too influenced by what other people think of us rather than who we are in Christ. The Colossians church was not immune to this as well. They were faced with a group who tried to get their eyes off of Christ and on to other things. They wanted to be approved before God by other entities and activities besides Christ. Paul brings them out of this mindset in verses 16-18 of chapter 2.
