Generally speaking, people are careful about their possessions. Houses and cars are very expensive but even small items are treasured for their sentimental value. We do need to be on our guard, however, against becoming selfish like Scrooge the miser, addicted to and worshipping money or property. Christians, of all people should be known for their generousity. As God gave his only begotten Son up to suffering and death for us, even the death of the cross, we will surely have a heart and generously give to others. Certainly, this was true of the Christians of Luke's day. He reports, 'the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common' (4.32)
