Ezekiel was a prophet of the Babylonian captivity. That is, he was one of those who were entrusted with proclaiming, protecting, and propagating the true revelation of the covenant God while ministering to a people who were surrounded by those of a culture which was either antagonistic to the divine revelation, or dismissive of the divine revelation. In this context, there were many who appeared on the scene claiming to be messengers from God. But the truth was that they were not God's messengers at all and they were proclaiming a message which was merely an expression of their own compromised wishful thinking. Inevitably, they were false messengers. The condition of the Lord's people at that time was very similar to our condition in the present day. We are surrounded by those who are antagonistic, and as in the time of Ezekiel, there is a growing threat of false messengers and messages. The Lord will not long tolerate those speaking error in His name, and so He sent Ezekiel to proclaim God's condemnation of those false messengers. The message delivered by Ezekiel echoes today. Although it is a harsh message, it is ultimately a message of hope. The Lord will deliver His flock. (Ezekiel 34:10) – Pastor Schlegel
