In Jesus' tears, the onlookers recognized that Jesus loved Lazarus in a special way. How about you? Are you a mere onlooker, or do share in that special love that Jesus has for His children? What is the evidence of His love for us? Where was that love first manifested?
We see the love of Jesus in how He established a new covenant on our behalf and for our good, long before we were able to have any part in it personally.
A further witness of His love toward us is seen in the incarnation. Taking on the very nature of a servant, He became like us in order that we might become like Him. What wondrous love is this?
Next we see His love in what He bore for us. More than just a sin-bearer, He became sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God – what fathomless love!
Next we see His love individually calling and setting His love upon us. Ephesians 1:4-5 tells us that in love He predestined us to adoption as sons. His call is faithful and longsuffering until the sweet compulsion of His grace broke through our willful rejection of Him.
Lastly we will consider how He has shown His love to us by the fact that when we are faithless, He remains faithful towards us. His love is an everlasting love.
