Biblical faith, as used in Romans 10:9-10 not only involves the whole man, it also must have Jesus Christ as its object. Christ, the object of faith considered under five heads:
1. His incarnation 2. His life 3. His death 4. His resurrection 5. His ascension
Faith does not build upon itself; it rests on no graces, raptures, meltings, communing, fightings, or praying and groaning. It builds upon Christ alone.
Secondly, it is the nature of Gospel faith to trust the righteousness and death of another (spec. Jesus Christ). Effectual calling, then, must include enlightening the mind spiritually and savingly to understand the gospel. Faith is the grace that comes from God and enables us to believe.
