Four Points 1. Serving Lord while complaining does not honor your Lord. 2. Serving the Lord while being anxious and troubled does not honor the Lord (v. 41). 3. Nothing should (not even serving) distract us from the one necessary thing, from the good portion. Three areas that can distract us: Lawful pursuits, Inferior pursuits, and Unlawful pursuits. ERGO: nothing should distract us. We all tend to do what we want to do. We all have the same amount of time and we all fill our time with something. Is it the one thing needful? 4. Let us choose "the good portion." How? Though we don't have Christ physically, we do have access to Him through His appointed means. Why? Is it just to be religious? Just to fulfill another duty? No, your Lord died on the CROSS to purchase your access to the Father. His death secured your salvation and through His death you are reconciled with the Godhead. You have a vital relationship with the living God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit communicates to you the benefits of that relationship that flows to you through your union with Christ. This good portion will not be taken away from you. Whatever lawful pursuits you might have, they will most likely be taken away. Many things we pursue will simply be taken away. The rich and the poor will leave their money. Rulers and Presidents will have to give up their reign. Our jobs will have to be relinquished some day. Your house will be given to someone else. We will cease to be with our families. Your yard or garden will no longer will be yours!!! BUT THIS GOOD PORTION cannot be taken from you!
