Jesus asked his disciples, 'Have you understood all these things [concerning the kingdom]?' They said, 'Yes.' And he said, 'Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.'
The kingdom parables of Matthew 13 give us a picture of the Kingdom of God, along with the promise that when we are dull in our hearing, the truth of the Kingdom breaks through to us so that we may come to understand 'what has been hidden since the foundation of the world' (v. 35). An understanding of the kingdom of God and of our calling within the kingdom gives us both equipping and great responsibility to proclaim the word of his grace to those around us.
