Jude had purposed to write his epistle about the truths of our common salvation, but then was moved by God to write, urging his readers to contend earnestly for the faith - the whole body of truth that has been given us in the word of God. There is, even in the early church, a raging battle against the truth of God's word. This battle is between God and His angels and His people, and Satan and his angels and his people. Satan's whole program is based on lies as he is a liar and the father of lies and those who are his as part of his world system are held in the deception of his lies. These persons revile angelic majesties or glories. Here we continue to look at these false prophets in a parallel passage in 2 Peter. Here, as in our Jude passage we find an emphasis on God's dealing in wrath with those who have lived ungodly lives in the past. These are a warning as to what is to come according to His word.
