If ever there was a man who had a rational basis for depression it was Job. He experienced trials far beyond what most of us will ever know. His immediate response was stellar. But after the funerals were over and the the flowers had wilted, depression set in. He wished he had not been born and he wished he could die quickly. Then he began to complain against God. God's response to him in Job 38-42 is instructive. Instead of explaining things to Job, God rebuked him for his arrogance. Is this what Job really needed at this time? Obviously it is. God is the best counselor there could ever be. God knows exactly what we need. The hard truth is that beneath our depression is anger at God. And beneath the anger is pride.
