Aim: To understand that we are in the process of living and dying everyday; and to learn what to live and what we die to.
Exegesis: We are to die to falsehood, and live for truth. Let us recognize God's holiness (v. 17), our weakness (v. 18), and our dependence (v. 19). We are to die to the old self, and live for Christ. Our past history is death with Christ (v. 20a); our present reality is life in Christ (v. 20b). We are to die to works, and live to grace. Grace is necessary for salvation (v. 21a), and grace excludes law in salvation (v. 21b).
Key verse: v. 20 ''I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.''
