In Paul's last letter to Timothy he laid out thirty-four commands necessary for Timothy to carry out. These commands convey the fervency and intensity Timothy would need as he assumed leadership in the Church. These commands are applicable to believers today as the ministry continues on in the Church.
Every believer has personal, moral, and ministry responsibilities before the Lord. All must live godly lives and be faithful in their service to the Lord. It is crucial to serve employing and depending on the power God supplies to have the necessary boldness and self-disciplined the work of the Lord requires. There can be no let up, no hesitancy, no retiring complacency, no compromise if the servant of the Lord is going to be found faithful.
Being faithful also requires taking the Truth of God, handling it accurately, and passing it on to others, remaining steadfast and willing to suffer when opposed. The work of the ministry will bring hardships and various trials making it all the more important to rely on God's strength and the energy the Spirit will generate.
Ministry opportunities are of eternal significance and will consume the life of those believers who have made the full offering of themselves to the Lord. Every believer must guard against becoming preoccupied with worldly matters that will be distracting, corrupting, and costly in terms of what is left being what is available to offer the Lord.
Paul also emphasized that false doctrine and corrupt moral practices are not to be tolerated in the church. Those living a godless lifestyle, professing to be believers or not, are to be avoided and disassociated from.
