CHARLES HADDON SPURGEON ON READING
'As the apostle says to Timothy, so also he says to everyone, 'Give yourself to reading.' He who will not use the thoughts of other men's brains proves that he has no brains of his own. You need to read. Renounce as much as you will all light literature, but study as much as possible sound theological works, especially the Puritanic writers, and expositions of the Bible. The best way for you to spend your leisure is to be either reading or praying.'

Great book. When I read Whitefield's life some years ago, I heard about this book, which opened his eyes toward what spiritual life really is. I was curious about the book. So I am glad that now I can listen to it read. This fist part argues that spiritual life consists not in external duties, but is an internal life, which is a manifestation of a personal relationship with God. Scougal then shows the characteristics of the life of Jesus: love toward God and man, purity of life and humility. Excellent reading; not hard to follow.

Good Soul Food Wow! Does this narration bring back memories. This narration was done by my former roommate over 20 years ago before we found wives for ourselves and moved from Montana. I had just started narrating myself, I think it was my second year or so, and he wanted to try his hand at it. So he narrated this work and Saving Faith by A W Pink. I don't think he ever finished narrating the latter work, so I finished the chapters for him. Thanks for uploading this! Scougal's book was really influential in the life of George Whitefield.
