How does a church lose it's power and effectiveness? How is it rendered useless in God's economy? We often measure the power and effectiveness of a church by the wrong means, from a human perspective.
There are three commmon erroneous ways people tend to evaluate a church. 1) By the number of people in the building. 2) By the sensory experience of the people in the church. And, 3) by whether or not people's perceived or 'felt needs' are being met. In other words, if what they hear from the pulpit or in private is satisfying to them according to their preconceived notions--whether that lines up with Scripture or not--they stay. If not, they leave.
The problem is, people come into a church having been preconditioned by culture, pop psychology and previous church experience good or bad. The question then becomes: 'Will you allow your preconditioned, preconceived notions to be challenged by what God says in the Bible?
This leads us to Paul's conclusion from our passage. To the question: 'How does GOD measure power and effectiveness? How does He define success in any church? According to Paul, through faithful Obedience to the Word of God; Unity among His people; and an Integrity of faith that is unshakable, immovable and unstoppable in the face of Adversity.
