Learning Spiritual Lessons from Nature. Proverbs 6:6-8, 30:25 When you read the Bible, you find that many times people are compared to various figures of nature. You find that saved people are compared to sheep, cattle, lions, eagles, etc. You also find that lost people are compared to goats, swine, dogs, vultures, etc. I find it very interesting that the only time a figure of nature is compared to people is in the case of the ant. The ant is mentioned only twice in the Bible and on one of those occasions we read, "The ants are a people..." Proverbs 6:6. This would suggest to me that of all the figures of nature we have considered and will consider, special consideration is to be given to the ant. We read in Proverbs 6:6 "Go to the ant." The word that is used for "go" means to, "walk with." The Bible is telling us to walk with the ant. Why are we walking with the ant? The answer is also given in verse 6, "Consider her ways." We are not only walking with the ant, but also watching the ant. The word "ways" literally means, "a road" and is figurative of a course of life. We are to walk with the ant and observe its course of life, its daily activities, and affairs. The Bible tells us to "Go to the ant and consider her ways." When we think of the habitation, the communication, the cooperation, and the purification of the ant, we can see activities that God wants to be true about our life as Christians. |
