In the new heavens and the new earth there is a huge city called the heavenly Jerusalem which is the dwelling place of the bride of Christ. It is the place our Lord has prepared for His own bride and will reflect His glory. As we look to Him to fulfill His promise we are eagerly awaiting His imminent return. The great beauty of the city itself is nothing in comparison to the fact the God Himself will dwell among His people. The believers who have taken of the water of life are truly those who have overcome by the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Here we turn our attention back to the place the our Lord has provided for His own, the holy city, Jerusalem. This Holy City will be on a high mountain in the new earth. It will be encompassed by a great and high wall that is 216 feet high. Here we look at the twelve gates, three on each of the four directions of the compass. There is an angel at each of these gates. Angels have a great place in the plan of God and they are watching the plan of God unfold as He deals in grace with us. God uses them in to stand against the fallen angels of Satan as they try to influence the leaders of the nations of the world. He also uses them in battles that take place between human armies and He uses them to give protection to those who are His. As the Word says, “The battle is the Lord's.”
