Gavin says, "the Moral Law of the 10 Commandments prohibits sexual relations outside of marriage between a man & his wife in the 7th & 10th Commandments, & in the Gospels in his Sermon on the Mount Jesus Christ in Matthew 5:27 saith, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery;' & in... Matthew 15:18-20, bearing in mind that in Jewish tradition the Decalogue is artistically summarized by placing the numbers 1 to 5 on the 1st tablet, & the numbers 6 to 10 on the 2nd tablet, Christ here isolates sin through…the Ten Commandments saying, 'out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders' that is the 6th commandment, 'Thou shalt not kill;'…'adulteries' that is the 7th commandment, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery' in its narrower sense;…'fornications' that is the 7th commandment 'Thou shalt not commit adultery' in its wider sense of any inter-personal sexual relations outside of God ordained heterosexual marriage;…'thefts' that is the 8th commandment, 'Thou shalt not steal;'…'false witness' that is the 9th commandment, 'Thou shalt not bear false witness.' And so…Christ first upholds the 2nd tablet of the Decalogue containing the 6th to 10th Commandments by these selected examples; and then he refers to "blasphemies," that is, the 3rd commandment, "Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain," that is…he here upholds the 1st tablet…containing the 1st to 5th Commandments by this selected example. And so Christ is … upholding the 2 tablets of the Exodus 20 Decalogue in which in its wider sense, the 7th Commandment includes all "fornications."…And so the primary issue we are looking at in this 3rd sermon on fornication is an egregious violation of the 7th & 10th Precepts of the Moral Law."
