I can remember being in an English Class in college where somehow the topic of sin came up. One of the students suggested that sin should only be defined as doing something that hurts another person. In other words, if something doesn't directly hurt another person or if two people agree to do something, then it isn't sin. Now this is obviously a completely wrong idea, but it is probably the most commonly accepted idea in our nation.
The basic root of all sin is the issue of authority – God's will or your desire. Will you submit to God's authority or attempt to experiment with your life?
We will briefly consider the story of the Fall in Genesis 3 as we consider further the nature of sin and its consequences.
