The Holy Spirit is really God's gift of himself and all his benefits. He comes, unexpectedly, to those who realise they have been bitter and hateful to God and his Son—a gift of mercy. This remains the pattern. We continue to discover what we are of ourselves and may be tempted to doubt God's gracious gift. However, the indwelling Spirit has marked us as God's own. He remains to lead us to the Son and the Father, to be the first fruits of the coming kingdom in us and to tell us our life is all gift. So, be led by the Spirit!
