"Where there is no vision (divine revelation) the people perish (because they cast off restraint); But happy is he who keeps the law." There is such a thing as "happy law keeping" just as this scripture reads--"...happy is he who keeps the law." This has a strange sound to some of us. Doesn't everyone know that we are not under law, but under grace? Yes, we are under grace. No, regenerate people are not "under law". That is we are not obligated to perform perfectly what the law demands to achieve our justification, nor of course are we under the the law as a theocratic covenant as the Hebrews in the Old Testament era were. It is however a common mistake to think that regenerate persons in Christ have nothing to do with the law and that the law has nothing offer new creatures in Christ. TRUE FREEDOM IS GIVING EXPRESSION TO ONE'S TRUE NATURE. GOD'S CHILDREN IN CHRIST ARE "PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE." THEREFORE THEY FIND TRUE FREEDOM AND HAPPINESS IN THEIR INWARD KNOWLEDGE OF GOD (a delightful New Covenant gift) AND FULFILLING THE ROYAL LAW OF LIBERTY. Antinomianism is as common as dandelions in the meadow. However well intended it is still wrong.
