Hebrews 11:24-26a, “By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin; considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt…”
Moses was the third most powerful man in Egypt and he could have anticipated living like a king the rest of his days! Many of us would love to have a life like this. And yet, he gave it up “considering the reproaches of Christ” to be “greater riches than the treasures of Egypt”! This is crazy! Yet what is it that brought Moses to such a strange position?
Hebrews 11:26b, “...for he was looking to the reward.”
Moses made the choice to give up the wealth of Egypt to suffer as a Christian because he interpreted his present life in light of eternity! This is why Paul exhorts us to “…keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:1b-2)!
