We come this morning to our thirteenth and final sermon on the Hall of Faith here in Hebrews 11. Remember, the writer has been urging us to believe in the necessity of faith. He warned against dropping out, ceasing to believe, back in ch. 10. Then he gave us dozens of examples of faithful Christians of the past, men and women who walked in faith, suffered in faith, triumphed in faith, and died in faith. Now he closes his speech in praise of faith with a note on the future of faith. Simply put, his point is that no matter how great the faith of these ancient heroes, they don't receive perfection without us. They don't get perfection before we do; rather, we all inherit it together. The last laborers in the vineyard are paid at the same time as the first ones. In other words, the passage this morning stands as a comment on Paul's statement "until we all reach unity in the faith" (Eph 4:13 NIV). When will that moment be? It will be the moment when we all stream into heaven together. When Abraham and Jephthah and Samson and the prophets are made perfect, then you will be too.
