In the ashes of Eden we hear the first distinct whisper of Christmas. The Lord God makes a promise of a battle to come and acts to cover (atone) for the sin and guilt of Adam and Eve with the first of many sacrifices made in substitution. This is the protoeuangelion -- the first whispers of the gospel.
