We used to have a small white dog named Mia. Mia was about 10 pounds soaking wet. She was a Maltese. You can learn a lot from dogs. Mia was crate trained and slept in her crate at night. We shut and latched the door of her crate at night to be sure she didn't cause any mischief while we were upstairs sleeping. Every morning, we unlatched the door to let Mia out. Unless you actually open the unlocked door, Mia would wait anxiously at the door waiting for you to open it. She could simply and easily push the door open with her little black nose, but she never did. She did not see the reality of the situation. She held herself back. Many of us hold our prayers back. We do not have, because we do not ask God. We do not see the spiritual reality of the goodness of God. His goodness is beyond what we think! We have an open door of freedom in Jesus, but we don't walk through it. We are imprisoned by what we think and by our past experiences, which are not widened by the Word of God. The human tendency is to worship a god that is smaller than the God revealed in the Bible. A.W. Tozer wisely observed, "What comes to our mind when we think about God is the most important thing about us." Since what we believe about God is so vital, we must constantly be on guard against worshipping a god that is smaller than the one and true living God, the God of the Bible!
