This week we will hear from Psalm 25 where David lifts his soul up to the Lord and cries out for help and relief from his many troubles and afflictions. His prayer is not some last resort or final ditch effort, but his first and only port of call, to his God in whom he trusts. He has absolute confidence that God will hear him and respond in due time, as he waits for the Lord. Such assurance in God's sovereign and steadfast love does not reduce the need to pray, in fact, it is the very reason why David prays. Even in his loneliness and distress he is sure of the friendship of the Lord for those who fear him (v14). In like manner, we too can draw near to the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that it is there we will receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Heb 4:14-16).
