What are the sacraments? Visible holy signs and seals appointed by God for more fully declaring and sealing to us the promise of the gospel by their use.
What is the promise of the gospel? Free grace granted to us for the forgiveness of sins and everlasting life for the sake of the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
Christ has commanded us, all His believers to eat of the broken bread and to drink of the cup in rememberance of Him. By doing so, we remember His broken body and shed blood for us as certainly as we see the broken bread and the cup given to us.
Our souls are nourished by Christ's broken body and shed blood, of which the bread and wine are tokens.
