The Feast of Tabernacles ended with an added eighth day, a solemn Sabbath on which two ceremonies were performed with singing and rejoicing. The first rite was a water-poring ceremony in which water was taken from the pool of Siloam and carried to the temple and poured out before the Lord. The second ceremony was the lighting of lamps in the court of the women. The Passage of our message today directs our attention to the first ceremony and shows the failure of the people to truly comprehend the spiritual significance these rites were to show.
