The brief story of Enoch's unusual life combined with the two New Testament references to him present a compelling account. His life was a contradiction to the trends of the time in which he lived. It was a time of increasing perversion and widespread violence. Yet, though he was in a distinct and shrinking minority, Enoch walked with God, itself a very rare expression in Scripture. According to the New Testament, he lived by faith and left this world by faith. His message to his time was to warn of certain judgment, and that was a message that did not endear him to the people among whom he lived. Still, Enoch demonstrated that it is possible to keep following God when all around are pursuing their own wicked devices.
