Today I will continue our sermon series which is an expository study through the book of Ecclesiastes. We find ourselves in the second section of the book, which is where Solomon seeks to prove the assertion he made in the first section. The text before us in this sermon brings this section to a close. Once again Solomon deals with the dissatisfaction of life as he considers the vanity of wealth. There are many problems associated with wealth and Solomon identifies some of them. In this passage he develops the theme of false hope that wealth produces, and the disillusionment that accompanies it. He describes it as “an enormous evil,” and it really is. As western Christians who have so much, it would be quite easy for us to get “caught up” in the pursuit of having even more, rather than setting our affections on things above. Solomon will show us the vanity of such a life and all that he has to say is extremely relevant for us today. Again it is my prayer is that God will be pleased to bless the His word preached as we continue our study of this fascinating book
