We are prone to justify, excuse or minimize our irritability. We blame it on our circumstances. We minimize it by saying, 'At least I get over it quickly.' We say, 'I can't help it. That's just the way I am.' We say that other people should understand that we really don't mean it when we get annoyed. We say we really do love and respect them, in spite of our anger and irritability. We says that other people should just remember all the good things we do and say. They should remember all of those things and ignore this aspect of my behaviour. Or we say we can't help it because we are just weak. Others may be able to resist this urge, but I don't have what it takes. We may also excuse or minimize our bad temper by saying that it is a harmless weakness.
But according to God's Word, being irritable or easily annoyed is not just a harmless weakness. It is a destructive sin. True biblical love is not easily annoyed. It doesn't say that love isn't easily annoyed, unless someone doesn't agree with what I am saying. Or unless I just don't feel good and I am just tired. Or unless someone else doesn't respect me. No. Love is not easily annoyed.
