Psalm 69 is a primary example of an imprecatory psalm. The apostle Peter, quoting 69:25 in Acts 1:20 and applying it to Judas, instructs us that the imprecation of the psalm was occasioned by the arising of a treacherous insider who would ravage the flock of God. Before expressing his imprecatory appeals the psalmist, very instructively, deals with himself (:5-6). To the end that those who wait upon and seek Thee might not be ashamed and dishonored through me (you), this message considers the reasonings of Joseph in the crucible of enticement in Potiphar's house. Joseph's reasoning were along three lines: fidelity to a trust, the sanctity of God's Law and loyalty to God Himself. Such reasonings, pled in the midst of temptation, may with the blessing of God, keep us from bringing reproach upon ourselves and demoralizing the people of God.
