This sermon was preached on the Sunday prior to the 2004 election. It is not a "Republican" sermon, nor even an "American" sermon, but a sermon concerning God's sovereignty over human governments preached from the vantage point of the kingdom. In the days of uncertainty leading up to the election we learned that God is sovereign over the purpose of gov't; the power of gov't; the personnel of gov't; the policies of gov't; & the providence of gov't. As Christians, we view human government from the transcendant vantage point of being citizens of the kingdom of our Priestly King, Jesus Christ. We know that His is the name above every name, that He is King of kings & Lord of lords, that He is the ruler of the kings of the earth. Therefore, we are at peace with His sovereign purposes being accomplished while we discharge our rightful responsibilities to participate in the political process & do our civic duties as unto the Lord.
