This is the seventh and last of our series on the life of Saul. As we approach Saul's final days we find a man who has plummeted from the heights of chapter 11, and now finds himself trying to consult the dead. His fall is both shocking and disturbing, and stands as a warning to us all.
This sermon has five main sections: 1) A deserted King 2) A distant God 3) A desperate decision 4) A dead prophet 5) A dark night
Yet this message does is not simply full of doom and gloom. Whilst we can have little hope for Saul, we need not abandon hope for ourselves, and those we love. This message also points people to another King who was deserted in his final hours, another King who knew God to be distant, another King who knew the darkness. The difference is that this King suffered all that for us.
