In this study we look at how the "separation" which took place in God's formation and ordering of the heavens and the earth included a separation of waters, to let dry land appear, and also of day from night, involving the creation of the sun and moon. From this we look at how these verses are a polemic against idolatry in all its forms and than we see how this narrative contradicts the classic evolutionary position on how the universe was formed and developed. Finally we see how the formation and multiplication described in Genesis 1:6-25 was a preparation in readiness for the creation of mankind and from that we trace the connection with the 'new heavens and the new earth' as the environment God has made ready for his redeemed people.
