Idea: God promised to deliver in two ways. First, He would deliver the Jews in a physical, national way. And second, He would bring deliverance in a spiritual way. This stands over and against the inactivity of dead idols who cannot save in history, and who cannot save spiritually.
1. Israel, the blind servant (42:18-25) 2. Deliverance (43:1-7) 3. The Certainty of God's promise (8-20)
God has and does act in real life situations. He acts in our lives. His truth and spirit have set us free from the power of sin. Christ has been with us through fire and water, through sickness and discouragement and frustration and failings. Why are we here today? Bc God has redeemed us. That truth shines brightly in a world of darkness. It shines as a witness that there is a place of peace in a world of upheaval. There is a God who forgives in a world that has no idea what to do with guilt. There is meaning in the midst of suffering even though I may not be able to discern it. There is hope in the midst of despair. We, ourselves, are witnesses, god's witnesses to these things. Have you experienced God's presence through trials? Have you experienced God's deliverance? Consider how your can remember these things. Keep a written journal of it. Tell the story to your children and grand children. Give thanks along with others in the congregation, remembering that God has formed you for Himself that you may declare His praise.
